Em muitas outras culturas, não é importante guardar o objeto, já que o que é valioso é conhecer a idéia ou estória por trás dele. No Japão, os templos Zen são tão frágeis que têm que ser reconstruídos a cada dez anos. Mas as pessoas chamam estas construções de monumentos precisamente porque sabem a sua estória.
